Ms. Sonya has master’s degree in environmental health and a bachelor’s degree holder in Chemical Engineering with over 24 years’ experience at United Nation Environmental Program (UNEP), Aluminum Bahrain (Alba), and Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) in the field of Chemical Management, Process Engineering, Environment, Health, and Safety.

She has proven abilities as the visionary, creator, and driver of strategies and business plans that have consistently delivered record setting achievements in the field. Her capabilities are complemented by my strong leadership skills and commitment to productivity.

Samah career was wide throughout the journey where currently holding the position of Manger, Risk and Information Security since March 2022, the role is focused on establishing and implementation of the organization, Enterprise Risk Management and enhancement of the existing Risk Management Process in addition the embedding of the risk management process across the whole organization, this included conduction of risk refresh across the whole organization and alignment between divisional risks and enterprise risks and reporting to the board audit and risk committee, the role additionally focused on the Business Continuity Management this included sustainment of ISO 22301 certification for BCM where a full implementation of the BCM program across the organization was lead and obtained in 2016, Compliance Management program involved in the establishment and implementation of Compliance Management, In addition to the implementation of compliance policies and procedures, this includes development of regulatory inventory and evaluation of compliance with these requirements, and the CURRICULUM VITA SAMAH AL-HAMAD Jan 2025 identification of areas of gaps and the establishment of a compliance closure plan and testing requirements and the implementation of a governance of the Information Security this includes the verification of the cyber security controls on the IT and OT environment in addition to the data protection law implementation and governance of the personal data across Bapco Refining.

Ms. Alyaa Maki is Chemical Engineer who has started her career in the field of Process Safety in upstream Oil and Gas for 9+ years. During this time, I have served as Lead Process Safety Engineer in major projects facilitating and reviewing various process hazard studies such as: HAZIDs, HAZOPs, LOPAs, QRAs and Fire and Gas mapping. Due to my passion for Process Safety, I have gone to complete an MSc in Process Safety and Loss Prevention in 2019 from the University of Sheffield. Today, I serve BAPCO Upstream as the Manager of Safety, Emergency and Compliance with the main objective of benchmarking our current Safety and Emergency processes to be in-line with best industrial practices

Mark joined NSC in 2020 as Vice President of Roadway Practice after more than 20 years in the transportation industry. Currently, Mark holds the role of EVP of Safety Leadership and Advocacy and leads the operations of the Council’s advocacy programming portfolio across roadway and workplace safety domains, as well as government affairs and research functions. In December of 2023, Mark was appointed as a member of USDOT’s Transforming Transportation Advisory Committee (TTAC), serving to advise and contributing to Secretary Buttigieg’s vision for a transformative and safe transportation framework.

Prior to joining NSC, Mark was the CMO and GM of Global Business at SAE International. Before that, he served as Vice President of Corporate Strategy for Cooper Tire & Rubber Company; Global Marketing Director for Cummins Inc.; Director of Corporate Strategy for Yokohama Tire Corp; and, Marketing Manager for Ford Motor Company.

Mark earned a BS in Business Administration from the University of Southern California, and an MBA from Indiana University. A life-long motorsports fan, Mark has visited more than 30 different racetracks across three continents. He resides with his family in Ann Arbor, MI.

Richard Bate, President Elect of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH)

Richard has over 30 years’ experience, thriving as a global OSH consultant in the high-pressure environment of sports, live music, and entertainment.Richard’s early career as a Paramedic in the UK Health Service was diverse, including emergency response, helicopter aircrew and training.He was also the Principal OSH Consultant at the FIA Formula E World Championship, where he spent eight years.

Richard is committed to a socially sustainable-driven approach to OSH, diversity, equity, and the elimination of harm globally.An advocate of OSH as a first career, he also advocates the positive value of volunteering and continuous professional development.

Stephen has wealth of experience of more than 40 years in the safety, health and environmental sector, supported by formal qualifications. Stephen is an expert trainer for our and our partnering Institute, while also covering duties as a managing director of a HSE consulting firm.
He is confident of making a positive and effective contribution in a role where his knowledge and enthusiasm would contribute to a company’s success and development.
He is a Health & Safety expert who has always worked within disciplined environments as a responsible positive, self-motivated expert with the confidence to manage diplomatically. Stephen is proactive, adaptable and conscientious professional with experience in various industries. Overcomes challenges through a systematic, analytical and diligent approach – drawing on knowledge gained through experience and education. Consistently works to the highest professional standards and thrives when working as part of a cohesive team or as an individual, to ensure the application of HSE legislation and standards.
Stephen is friendly, honest, trustworthy and hardworking individual with a common-sense approach to work. Stephen is part of the National Working Group for Tunneling (CITB) writing the standards for the British Tunneling Society for tunnel operatives & supervisors, writing the specifications for Locomotives operatives’ underground. He is also a member of the committee who is charged with writing new qualification for Shot Firers & Bulk Explosives Transportation Operators for the CPCS.
Moreover, he is a Technical Trainer for the National Oil Corporation (Libya) at the Special Training Company Shell Libya.

Dr. Stephen Taylor is the Executive Director of the Laboratory Safety Institute (LSI), a global nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing health, safety, and environmental responsibility in science education, research, and industry laboratories. Appointed to this leadership role in 2024, Dr. Taylor brings over 25 years of experience in chemical research, innovation leadership, and science education.
Holding a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Dr. Taylor’s career spans academic teaching at Purdue University and leadership positions in the chemical industry, including his role at The Shepherd Chemical Company. His entrepreneurial spirit also led to the founding of successful startups focused on innovation storytelling and the application of generative AI technologies.
At LSI, Dr. Taylor works alongside the organization’s founders and past presidents to expand laboratory safety training programs and promote a culture of safety in educational institutions and industrial environments worldwide. He is a passionate advocate for replacing hazardous chemicals with safer alternatives and has led initiatives such as the “Got DCM?” campaign, raising awareness about the dangers of methylene chloride in laboratories.
Dr. Taylor continues to engage with industry leaders, academic institutions, and regulatory bodies to strengthen global laboratory safety standards, ensuring that science is conducted safely and responsibly for future generations.

Adrian is a Chartered Health and Safety Practitioner (CMIOSH) with over 20 years of experience in high-risk sectors, including onshore and offshore oil and gas, power generation, and data centres. He has supported multinational corporations across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.
He holds a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics from the National University of Ireland and an MSc in Occupational Health and Safety Management from Loughborough University. His academic background is complemented by technical training, including diplomas in Occupational Health and Safety and Ergonomics (NUIG), and Risk, Compliance and Governance (Chartered Accountants Ireland). He also holds certifications in Environmental Management (IEMA) and Oil and Gas Operational Safety (NEBOSH).
Adrian is a Qualified Teacher (QTS) who enjoys facilitating learning and knowledge-sharing. He has worked across all phases of project lifecycles—from concept and FEED through detailed design, construction, operations, and decommissioning. He is known for solving problems in fast-paced, large-scale, and complex industrial environments and for engaging others to share and grow their expertise.
